The Monticello High School football team was defeated by the Norwood Mavericks 36-6 on September 19. The loss drops the Buckaroos to 2-3 on the season.
Monticello fell behind Norwood 8-0 after one quarter, with the Mavericks pushing their lead to 22-0 at halftime.
Lightning early in the third quarter delayed the action quite a bit but the Mavericks held a 30-0 lead after the third quarter with the final score favoring Norwood 36-6.
Norwood’s offense rushed for 208 yards and one touchdown while passing for 82 yards and three touchdowns.
The Bucks defense was led by Tommy Morrison who recorded 11 tackles, while Landon Shumway and John Leber each had nine tackles. William “Bean” Rogers had one interception for the Bucks.
Monticello’s offense was held to -4 rushing yards. Jaeden Camacho led the team with 14 yards on four carries. The Buckaroo passing game gained 110 yards.
Quarterback Jackson Keyes completed eight of 26 attempts with three interceptions and one touchdown.
Camacho led receivers with three catches for 58 yards including the 37-yard touchdown pass from Keyes in the fourth quarter.
Cache Young also had one catch for 30 yards with Cash Mack grabbing one pass for 15 yards and Shumway grabbing two catches for eight yards.
Monticello will look to bounce back when they head to Dove Creek, CO to take on the 1-2 Bulldogs this Friday, September 26.
