Monticello girls golf team captures region title, heads to state

After winning the regular season title, the Monticello girls golf team headed to Hobble Creek Golf Course in Springville on Monday, May 10 for the Region 16 Championship.
The girls stumbled a little on the very challenging course, but still played well enough to accomplish the mission they set out to – winning the region championship match.

Monticello Bucks stay alive in 2A state baseball tournament with close win over Altamont

The 2A Utah State Baseball Championships commenced on Saturday, May 8 at Beaver High School and the Monticello Buckaroos were in attendance to face the undefeated and #5-ranked Enterprise Wolves.
Due to sparse stats, all that can be reported is that the Bucks were blanked 15-0 in the opening round of the double-elimination tournament by Enterprise.

Monticello girls golf wins third straight region match

The Monticello girls golf team had another successful week when they traveled to Morgan on Tuesday, April 27 to play the Round Valley Golf Course, home of the North Summit Lady Braves.
Coming into the match the Lady Buckaroos were in first place in the region and nothing changed in that regard as they picked up their third straight region win.

Buckaroo boys track team places second in resurrected Blue Mountain Invitational

On a very windy day, even by Monticello standards, the Monticello High School track and field team hosted their first home meet in 28 years.
The 2021 Blue Mountain Invitational on Saturday, April 23 featured six boys teams and seven girls teams on the newly-revamped MHS track.

Monticello golf team grabs second place in season-opening match

The Monticello High School girls golf team finally got their season off the ground when they traveled to Sterling for a region match at the Palisade State Park Golf Course on Tuesday, April 13.
To say the 2021 team is young and inexperienced is spot on, however, what the team lacks in experience it makes up for in grit, determination, and a great attitude according to head coach Nathan Chamberlain.

Monticello High boys track team captures second at San Juan County Championships

After a week off for Easter, the Monticello High School boys and girls track and field teams were back in action on Friday, April 9 with a short bus trip to Blanding for the San Juan County Championships.
The boys had a great meet, placing second. They were outscored by only the 3A Carbon Dinos 183-170. 3A San Juan finished fourth at the meet scoring 97 points and 3A Grand County placed fifth with 40 points.

Monticello High baseball team gets first win of the season

The Monticello High School baseball team began the past week without a win on the season. In fact, when they hosted Altamont on Tuesday, March 30, it had almost been two years since the Bucks had won a baseball game.
This was, of course, partially due to COVID-19 wiping out all last season, but it went without saying that MHS was due for a win. As it turned out, the week was good to the team.

Buckaroo baseball team drops a couple games

The week following spring break is always challenging for students and athletes to get back into the swing of things after enjoying a little relaxation and time off.
This proved to be the case for the Monticello Baseball team as they traveled to their first region game of the season and hosted their first home game of the season.

Sparse Buckaroo track and field teams attend two meets

It may have been Spring Break 2021, but a handful of team members from the Monticello track and field teams took some time off from relaxing and having fun to attend two different meets in Price on Friday, March 19 and in St. George on Friday and Saturday, March 19-20.
At the Carbon Invitational in Price, a small Monticello boys team was one of 20 teams in attendance from all over the state.

Monticello track and field teams kick off new season at Red Rocks Invitational in Moab

On a stormy, cold, blustery Saturday, March 13 in Moab, the Monticello track and field teams started the season at the 2021 Red Rocks Invitational hosted by the Grand County Red Devils.
What a difference a year makes. Almost exactly one year after the track and field teams had their season wiped out by COVID-19, Monticello was able to start the track season at its usual first meet of the season.

Bucks fall short in 2A state quarterfinal and consolation games

For the first time since joining the 2A classification two years ago, the Monticello boys basketball team earned a trip to the Sevier Valley Center in Richfield to play in the state quarterfinals with a shot at a state title.
Standing in their way was a formidable foe – the #2-ranked Layton Christian Eagles. The two teams had not played each other this season and had no common opponents, so the matchup promised to be interesting.

Bucks advance to state quarterfinals with win over Duchesne Eagles

For the first time since joining the 2A classification two years ago, the Monticello boys basketball team (9-10 / 4-6) earned a first-round bye in the state playoffs.
However, the Bucks wouldn’t have it easy if they wanted to make it to Richfield for the third round having to go on the road to face the Region 16 champion Duchesne Eagles (11-9 / 7-3) in Duchesne on Friday, February 19.

Monticello High School basketball teams close regular seasons and head into state playoffs

With the 2020-2021 regular season drawing to a close, the 1-17 Monticello girls basketball team hosted undefeated Dove Creek in an intrastate game on Wednesday, February 10.
In January the Lady Bulldogs beat the Lady Bucks 55-43. Since that meeting Monticello has struggled with key injuries and has been forced to play a lot of young players.

Monticello High School boys basketball team gets exciting overtime win at North Sevier

The Monticello boys basketball team began and ended the week on the road with a couple Region 16 games against the Altamont Longhorns Tuesday, February 2 and the North Sevier Wolves Friday, February 5.
Two weeks prior Monticello had their way with Altamont and came away with a 53-45 home win. But they knew returning home from the Basin with a win would be a little more difficult.

Bucks suffer loss to Gunnison Valley but win two in homestand

The Monticello Buckaroo boys basketball team had a very busy week, playing four games in four days. Fortunately all of them were in the friendly confines of Monticello High School.
On Wednesday, January 27 the Bucks hosted the Gunnison Valley Bulldogs in a Region 16 match-up. Two weeks prior Monticello had traveled to Gunnison and left town with a 43-42 win.

Buckaroos topple Red Devils and split a pair of Region 16 games

For the second year in a row, the Monticello High School boys basketball team did what they hadn’t been able to do for years – win back-to-back home games against the Grand County Red Devils.
On Tuesday, January 19 the Buckaroos not only did that, besting the visitors by the score of 63-58, but they also handed the visitors their first loss of the season, dropping the Red Devils to 12-1 on the season.
