Blanding city approves two of three rezones and plans to update Mobile home zoning

Members of the Blanding City Council denied one zone request for a Mobile Home zoning, approved two other rezones and began discussions about revisiting the requirements in Mobile Home zoning at their latest meeting.

Members of the Blanding City Council approved continued participation in a law enforcement task force, received reports on zoning, and discussed an administrative leave award at their latest meeting.

Fall Festival events on Saturday in Blanding

The annual Blanding Fall Festival is back this weekend with fun for the entire family at Centennial Park. Games, dancing and a community dinner all make up a day of fun on Saturday September 13.
The Fall Festival kicks off at 11:00 am Saturday morning with three-on-three basketball and cornhole tournaments with prizes to the winners. You can sign-up on the city website.

White Mesa hosts Bear Dance this weeekend

The annual Ute Mountain Ute Tribe White Mesa Bear Dance is once again being held in San Juan County starting on Friday, August 29, and concluding on Monday, September 1. A full schedule of events can be found on page A4 in the San Juan Record.
The event is open to the public.
Friday starts with the sunrise prayer and blessing at 6 am at the Bear Dance Corral in White Mesa. 

New city manager in appointed in Blanding

Blanding had a new city manager appointed at their latest meeting. The council also tabled a decision on a mobile home rezone request and approved agreements with the county and school district at their latest meeting.
Members of the Blanding City Council appointed Pratt Redd to serve as Blanding’s next city manager at the August 12 meeting.

Blanding City Council 2025 Primary Election

Blanding city council primary election result will see four candidates advance to the November general election.
Blanding residents cast ballots during the August 12 election, 581 ballots have been counted with 1,494 registered voters in the city the primary election saw a 39-percent turnout.

Blanding City is holding a primary election on Tuesday August 12. Five candidates for Blanding City Council will be narrowed down to four candidates by Blanding City voters.
The top four vote earners next week will advance to the November municipal election as voters decide two members of the council.

Jim and Karen Slavens were honored as the Grand Marshals of the 4th of July parade in Blanding. They will also be honored in City Council on July 8.

Fireworks, a parade, a prayer breakfast and a host of events are happening across Blanding city as the area celebrates the 249 Independence Day for the USA.
“Let Freedom Ring” is this year's theme for the Blanding 2025 Independence Day Celebration. Events stretch across five days starting July 1 and wrapping up on the 5th of July.

Blanding City hears water and fire reports, and begins search for Administrator

While not reported at their latest meeting, news has recently broke that the city will be seeking a new administrator.
City Manager Trent Herring shared he accepted a job as the Human Resource Director for Utah Navajo Health System.

Independence Day is just around the corner and Blanding hosts an outstanding celebration.
In addition to the traditional activities like a parade, booths, and fireworks, the 4th of July celebration in Blanding has included a melodrama since 1983.
