It’s down to the biggest game of the year for both the Whitehorse and Monument Valley high school football teams.
They both conclude their seasons when they clash in the annual Battle of the Drum football game on the Monument Valley High School football field this Friday, October 25.

The Whitehorse High School volleyball team suffered a huge defeat in the last home game of the season against their rivals, Monument Valley, on Thursday, October 10. The straight-sets loss was especially sour for the Lady Raiders since it was the Battle of the Drum and homecoming.

The Whitehorse High School volleyball team won a home region game against Pinnacle on Tuesday, October 2. The Lady Raiders swept the Pinnacle Panthers in a 3-0 match.
In the first set, the Lady Raiders dominated with a 25-14 win. Senior Alyzea Benally scored easy points for the team with back-to-back aces. Junior Rueshaunda Jim added to the scoreboard with kills and quick aces.

The Whitehorse High School football team is looking forward to a good year. The Raiders open the season this Friday, August 23 when they host the Monticello Buckaroos at 7 p.m.
Head Coach Elliott Benn reports that the Raiders have 40 student athletes on the roster, the largest team in several years.

Funeral services for Anndine “Cookie” Jones, a four-year-old child from Aneth, are scheduled for Saturday, April 13 at 9 a.m. at the Cahone Mesa Church of God.
The Navajo Division of Public Safety reports that the body of Jones was discovered along McElmo Creek on April 3, more than three weeks after she was reported missing from her home near the swollen creek.

The Whitehorse High School girls basketball team hasn’t experienced much recent success at the annual 1A state tournament in Richfield.
Since the team’s high mark in 2005 when they finished as state runners-up, the Lady Raiders failed to qualify four times and played all four days at the tournament only twice.

As the 2019 1A Girls State Basketball Tournament tips off today, February 27, Whitehorse and Monument Valley both begin a journey they hope takes them to rare territory – staying in the big show for all four games.
The Lady Raiders have done it just twice in the last 10 seasons. Monument Valley’s fourth place finish in the 2018 tourney is the only time the Lady Cougars have pulled it off in the last 10 years.

Keyshawn Whitehorse, one of the top 20 bull riders in the world, made a surprise appearance at Aneth Community School on March 21 as part of March Literacy Month.  He read “Oh, The Places You Will Go” by Dr. Suess and shared an inspirational message to students about being a Warrior.

Marquez Hathale, a 182-pound wrestler from Whitehorse High School, made it to the championship match before claiming second place at the 1A state wrestling tournament on February 10.
Hathale had a thrilling win in the semifinal, falling behind early before coming back to pin his opponent from Wayne High School. He lost to Justin Cecil of Monticello in the final, 18-6.

The Montezuma Creek community came together on January 25 to celebrate the groundbreaking of Family Dollar.
According to Utah State Treasurer David Damschen, who serves as chair of the Utah Navajo Trust Fund Board of Trustees, UNTF recently sold an acre of land to allow for the construction of the store. The Trust Fund owns approximately 15 acres in the area. 

The Whitehorse Raider basketball team is currently second in the Region 19 standings as the season comes to a close.
